Iguanbryderne is one of most widely debated sculptures of the city. The artistic value of the fountain was questioned right from the very beginning. This is despite the fact that wrestling was one of the disciplines at the Olympic Games in the times of classical antiquity.  But the art motives of the antiquity were not exactly considered innovative around the turn of the century. The modern, abstract art was close to achieving a breakthrough and for this reason, Holm’s fountain was criticised for being trivial and uninspired.
