Busten forestiller Frederik VII, eller i folkemunde Frederik Folkekær. Kongens popularitet blandt befolkningen skyldtes, at det var ham, der i 1849 underskrev Grundloven. Det betød, at enevælden blev ophævet. Busten er udført af H.W. Bissen, som var stærkt inspireret af billedhuggeren Bertel Thorvaldsen. Bissens kunst er præget af tidens nationalromantiske strømninger, og han er blevet kaldt Danmarks nationale billedhugger.

The bust depicts King Frederik VII. The popularity of the king among the general public is due to the
fact that he signed the Danish constitution in 1849, and thereby ended the absolute monarchy. The
bust is created by H. W. Bissen, who was influenced by the national romantic currents at the time, and
he has been called the national sculptor of Denmark.
