"Mennesket må sætte sin kraft ind på livets ukrænkelighed, så kan triumfen blive hel" skriver Gert Nielsen om sin skulptur med den sarkastiske titel Triumfmarchen. Gert Nielsen var soldat under 2. Verdenskrig, og skulpturen kan læses som et udsagn om krigens rædsler. Oprindeligt blev skulpturen modelleret op i gips allerede i 1962. I 1980 blev denne udgave støbt i bronze.
"Man must direct his effort towards the inviolability of life, so that the triumph may be complete" writes Gert Nielsen of his sculpture with its sarcastic title Triumfmarchen (the triumphal march). Gert Nielsen was a soldier during World War II, and the sculpture can be viewed as a testimony to the horrors of war. Originally the sculpture was modelled in plaster as early as 1962. In 1980 this version was cast in bronze.
